Teaching Approach

My teaching approach is best described as “alignment in action” designed to experience the energetic release that arises in both the outer flow of breath-coordinated movement and the inner flow that arises by attending in detail to postural alignment in more static shapes.  The breath deepens as the body lines up, and the body fully aligns as it receives the energy of the breath.  Mindful awareness sets the tone for the ritual of the class to becomes a field in which to explore the interconnection of thinking, feeling, and action.

Classes often start with centering, relaxing and aligning the body.   Moderately-paced to slow vinyasa follow, along with longer holds, pranayama and meditation.  Each class is well-rounded yet focuses on a particular pose or alignment principle.   Students leave grounded, alive and easeful.

The Journey

Christina began yoga during the stressful time of law school as a way to combat stress and re-claim health in her body and spirit.  She was first drawn to the challenging schools of self-led ashtanga and vinyasa yoga.  Her desire to create more health in the physical body and find a complimentary alignment practice drew her to Anusara yoga.  And, as the practice on the mat deepened she was naturally to explore meditation, breathwork and other forms of inner exploration.

She was born and raised in Oklahoma where her family still remains.  She’s lived in New York, Paris, and Washington, D.C., and spent a year traveling Southeast Asia, including four months with Sri K Pattahbi Jois in Mysore, India.  Now, she lives in Sausalito, California where she is learning to enjoy the fog as much as the sunshine.
Her passions include the devotional poems of the Bhakti yoga, Sufism and mystic Christian traditions.  The invaluable tools of Buddhist meditation practice, and a current  exploration of life-affirming Tantric philosophy all inform her life.   She loves to be hiking anywhere the sky is wide and the hills alive with nature, and diving into the sensate experience of this precious life.

Current Work

In addition to public classes and workshops, she has a full private yoga practice and is a life coach, working in person in Northern California and by phone nationally.
